Susan Chute
Susan Chute is a poet, librarian, archivist, book artist, and curator/founder of Next Year’s Words: a New Paltz Readers Forum, now beginning its 10th year, where she is known for her introductions to readers. She has recently been published in La Presa, in Lightwood, in Shawangunk Review, in the CAPS (Calling All Poets) 2020 anthology; in Reflecting Pool: Poets and the Creative Process (Codhill Press, 2018) and the Wallkill Valley Writer’s Anthology 2015. Her writing also appears on the blogs of The New York Public Library and Women’s Studio Workshop. Many years ago, she taught an Introduction to Poetry course at the Univ. of Pittsburgh, and when she presided over the Art and Picture Collections at The New York Public Library, she co-taught another poetry class called The Colored Line, the Pictured Word. She holds an MFA in Theatre from the Univ. of Michigan, and an MLIS from Pratt Institute.
Daniel Villegas
Daniel Villegas is a dynamic Slam poet and spoken word artist who captivates audiences with his rhythmic and rhyming performances. Using the power of the congas, he skillfully weaves poetry and expression, delivering poignant life lessons through his art.
Throughout his career, Daniel has had the privilege of performing alongside and opening for renowned artists such as Saul Williams, KRS-One, Tom Morello from Rage Against the Machine, Flobots, Immortal Technique, Lemon from Def Poetry, Tito Puente Jr., Bocafloja, and Readnex Poetry Squad. His talent has taken him on multiple nationwide tours in the United States, as well as to Europe, South America, and New Zealand.
Daniel's artistic journey has produced significant works both collaboratively and individually. With the Readnex Poetry Squad, he has contributed to three albums: "Fossil: Freedom of Speech Still Lives" in 2004, "Social Issues" in 2006, and "Daybefore Sound" in 2010. Additionally, he has released personal works that showcase his creative prowess, including "Poetry Meets Slam" in 2022, "Sankofa: Traveling to the Sun" in 2023, "Evolution Gold" in 2024, and "Emcee Scrolls" in 2023. In 2024, he plans to publish a book titled "Walking Cities of Light," which promises to be a thought-provoking literary exploration.
Daniel's passion extends beyond his own artistic endeavors. As the creator of the Newburgh Poetry Slam, he generously shares his knowledge and love for language and poetry, inspiring the next generation of poets to find their voices and express themselves authentically. With his profound performances and dedication to nurturing talent, Daniel Villegas continues to leave an indelible impact on the world of spoken word and Slam poetry
