Kevin cheli and Tom Law
Kevin Cheli (Ithaca, NY) and Tom Law (Saugerties, NY) create an organic blend of percussion and electronics that draws freely from the worlds of jazz, noise, and chamber music. Cheli employs vibraphone, drumkit, and various hand percussion devices; Law uses his custom-made software to capture, manipulate, and reflect Cheli’s gestures and timbres while occasionally tossing in bits of synthesized melodic material.
Cheli and Law met in early 2019, and began working together in Law’s home studio soon afterwards. They had just begun to play a few regional gigs when the pandemic put a stop to all that.
Luckily, Cheli had recorded pretty much everything that the two had worked on up to that point, so he spent the first few months of the lockdown going through the files, selecting the best tracks, and mastering them. All this work culminated in their CD “Sturgeon”, which was released on Bandcamp in September 2020.
