About the Musicians
Marina Hasselberg
Eclectic and award-winning cellist Marina Hasselberg “has become a standout presence on Vancouver’s music scene” (Georgia Straight). Like her recent Jesse Zubot-produced album Red, her performances are a provocative, deeply personal mix of classification-resistant written works and adventurous improvised excursions, with Hasselberg employing extended techniques, a variety of bows and accessories, and electronics to skirt the fine line between the known and the unknown.
Jim Pugliese
Jim Pugliese is a drummer, percussionist, composer, and international
recording artist on over 200 recordings of Jazz, Rock, Experimental and
Film music. A recognized unrepentant shaker of the conventional, his
artistic approach hovers between rhythmic cataclysm and spiritual
inoculation.
As a freelance drummer/percussionist he is in much demand and has
performed with The New York Philharmonic Horizon Series (guest artist)
and has toured and recorded with The Philip Glass Ensemble, John Zorn,
Marc Ribot, Bobby Previte, Anthony Coleman, Zeena Parkins and many
more.
Marianne Osiel
Multi-instrumentalist/singer/writer/arranger/performer Marianne Osiel spent much of her professional career as a sought-after “sideman” in Nashville for 15 years while simultaneously playing oboe in the Nashville Symphony. She has performed and/or recorded with artists as John Hall, Nanci Griffith, Jennifer Maidman, Rachel Sage, David Olney, Susan Piper, Bob Hillman as well as leading her own bands throughout that time. Her original recordings include Strange Girl and Full of Wholes (both
singer/songwriter CD’s)as well as an all-improvised instrumental CD featuring duets with four uniquely different New York keyboardists. Recently, as an improvisor she has performed with Karl Berger’s Improvisors Orchestra as well as other “soundpainters” in the New York area.
Ben Vida
Ben Vida is a composer, improviser, writer and artist. His practice encompasses works for voice and ensemble, Musique Concrète, text based compositions and electro-acoustic improvisation. In the mid-90’s he was involved in Chicago’s multi-faceted experimental music scene, co-founding the quartet Town & Country with Joshua Abrams. In the Mid-2000’s he relocated to New York and began producing electronic and systems based compositions which focused on psychoacoustics and advanced synthesis techniques, releasing records on Shelter Press and PAN. Since 2013, he has been composing pieces that combine his interests in group vocalization, durational performance and typographical scores. In collaboration he has worked with Marina Rosenfeld, Lea Bertucci and Tyondai Braxton among many others.
Fred Lonberg-Holm
Fred Lonberg-Holm is a musician / free improviser currently living in Kingston NY. Primarily a cellist, he has also recorded and performed on tenor guitar and trumpet.
