Noise Salon: The Climb Series, Vol. 2 lineup for April 14:
Noise Salon: The Climb Series is a new monthly curated improvised music event at Green Kill in Kingston hosted by underground musicians Mark Shue and Peter Aaron. A revived version of the Noise Salon series that Shue originated in Brooklyn in 2012, the salon is designed to bring musicians together from various communities and walks of life in order to perform a spontaneous improvisational collaborative performance as an ensemble. The exercise will explore what happens when a group is put together to create a piece of music on the spot.
The Noise Salon: The Climb Series, Vol. 2 event will take place at Green Kill on April 14 at 8pm and will feature Bob Bert, Grasshopper, Fred Lonberg-Holm, Brian Dewan, Mark Shue, and Peter Aaron. Green Kill is located at 229 Greenkill Ave., Kingston, NY, 12401. Information and tickets (tickets are $10 each; venue seating is limited to 30 audience members) are available at the links below. Bob Bert (drums)
Bob Bert has been the drummer for Sonic Youth, Pussy Galore, the Chrome Cranks, the Action Swingers, Knoxville Girls, Lydia Lunch Retrovirus, and Jon Spencer and the HITmakers and the front man of Bewitched. Currently, he plays in supergroup the Wolfmanhattan Project.
Grasshopper (clarinet)
Grasshopper AKA Sean Mackowiak is the guitarist and multi-instrumentalist of the American indie rock band Mercury Rev and its side project the Harmony Rockets and a member of the Hudson Valley improv rock band Ultraam. He also leads Grasshopper and the Golden Crickets.
Fred Lonberg-Holm (cello)
Internationally touring and prolific cellist Fred Lonberg-Holm is a veteran of the New York and Chicago free jazz/free improv scenes. In addition to leading the Valentine Trio, he has worked with Ken Vandermark, Joe McPhee, Peter Brötzman, God is My Copilot, Ballister, and many others.
Brian Dewan (Melody Gin)
Brian Dewan is a multi-media artist who has created many solo works and is a member of the Raymond Scott Orchestrette. An original member of Blue Man Group, he has collaborated with They Might Be Giants and others. For this set, he’ll play the Melody Gin, a homemade synthesizer.
Mark Shue (guitar)
Mark Shue is the bassist of indie rock band Guided By Voices and the guitarist and leader of New York bands Beech Creeps and Chomper. He is also the creator and curator of the Noise Salon series, which was originally held at Brooklyn art/performance space Secret Project Robot.
Peter Aaron (bass)
Peter Aaron has been the singer and guitarist of New York blues punk band the Chrome Cranks and is currently the front man of the Stabbing Jabs. He has also played in Peter Aaron/Brian Chase Duo, Young Skulls, the Heartless Hearts, and Avondale Airforce. He co-curates Noise Salon.
