Three

Three offers the art of three individual painters, whose work informs each other in startling, poignant and expressive ways. Tine Kindermann’s new series re-affirms her commitment to direct observation, German Weimar Republic era art, silent cinema, and a dark gothic sensibility. Her aesthetic focus is on the figure, using broken dolls and much- loved stuffed animals as stand-ins for human beings, emphasizing our shared fragility, humanity and vulnerability. Miguel Trelles fuses the structures and iconography of Modernist Spanish abstraction, Aztec and Incan figurative motifs, and themes from popular 20th Century fantasy illustration to examine complex contemporary identities. Finally Joel Silverstein is a figurative artist using direct observation, photos, movie stills and comic books to create portraits and intricate studio scenes that comment on the nature of self-portraiture, Phenomenology, popular culture, heroism, the monstrous and the transcendent.
